The first quarter opened with global stock markets rallying. U.S. equities posted the strongest January returns in 30 years, as the S&P 500 climbed 7.9%. This was a continuation of the upturn that began just after Christmas when U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Powell indicated that the Fed was unlikely to raise rates much if at all in 2019, a reversal from previous stated policy. - click here to read our full quarterly newsletter
The fourth quarter of 2018 was decidedly different in many ways from the previous two quarters. U.S. stocks—which had generated strong performance for much of the year—plummeted during the fourth quarter, regardless of sector, investment style or market capitalization. Non-U.S. equities also were hit hard, but managed to outperform the domestic market. In particular, emerging markets stock held up surprisingly well during a period of significant uncertainty and volatility. - Click here to read our full Quarterly Newsletter

Thank you to all who could make it out to our 2018 Client Appreciation Picnic. It was a day filled with beautiful weather, delicious food, fun games, and our first ever silent auction. This year, RWS Financial Group chose to give all donations from the games, silent auction, and generous individual donations to the Wayne State University Institute of Gerontology. We were privileged to have Dr. Peter Lichtenberg from the IOG speak on behalf of the foundation that he started with his late wife over 25 years ago. We were able to exceed our fundraising goal of $3,000! RWS is also matching dollar-for-dollar on all donations. So, thank you to everyone who donated to such a wonderful cause! Check out some of the pictures from the picnic!
